Link Error

A check on one of your monitored links failed. The page returned a server error, did not answer in time, or could not be reached at all.

What it means

A link monitor loads your link on a schedule, from the country you chose. This time the check did not get a working page back. The issue message shows what the check ran into, for example "500 (Internal server error)", "404 (Page not found)" or a connection error.

The issue is filed against the link. Several monitors on the same link, in different countries, share one issue.

Why it happens

Most common first:

  • The page is gone. A "404 (Page not found)" in the message means the landing page was removed or moved. These usually show up as Link Error, not as Link Not Found.
  • The partner's site is having trouble. A 5xx error, or a page that times out, is usually an outage or maintenance on their side. These are often short.
  • The domain no longer exists. "Name not resolved" or similar means the address the link points to does not resolve anymore. The partner may have moved to a new tracking domain.
  • Our check could not reach the site from that country. A tunnel or proxy connection error in the message means the problem was in how we connected from the chosen location, not on the partner's page. That one is ours, and it normally passes on the next check.

What you can do

  1. Read the issue message. It says what the check got back.
  2. Open Link monitors, click the history button on the failing monitor, and look at the status code, final URL and country.
  3. Open the link yourself from the same country.
    • If it works, wait for the next check, or use Check now. A one-off error often clears by itself.
    • If it is broken for you too, get the current landing page or tracking domain from the partner and update or replace the link in Routy Links.
  4. If the message shows a connection or proxy error and the link works for you, there is nothing to fix on your side. Contact support if it keeps happening on the same country.

When it clears

Automatically, as soon as any monitor on that link has a healthy check. Routy re-checks erroring monitors about every 15 minutes, so a fix is usually picked up within that time. If nothing reports the problem for 6 hours (for example, you paused or deleted the monitor), it closes on its own. Pressing Resolve while the link is still failing only lasts until the next check.
