Clicks Blocked: Invalid Traffic Source
Real visitors are clicking one of your links, but the clicks are being turned away because the traffic source in the link cannot be used.
What it means
Your tracking links can name the traffic source they belong to. When the traffic source in a clicked link no longer exists, or belongs to a different Routy account, Routy cannot attribute the click and does not redirect it. The visitor gets an error page instead of the offer, and the click is not recorded, so you will not find it in your clicks log.
This issue is raised once for your whole account, not once per link. The message names the first link we saw.
Why it happens
Most common first:
- The traffic source in the link belongs to another Routy account. This happens when a link is copied from a different account, or when one person manages several accounts and a link from one ends up published for another.
- The traffic source in the link was deleted. Links that carry a deleted source stop working.
- Your account has no traffic source at all. Rare, but then no click can be attributed.
What you can do
- Open the issue's details. They show the blocked URL, the page the click came from, the referrer, and your
pa/pbvalues. Use them to find where the link is published. - Look at the traffic source in the blocked URL and find it in Traffic sources.
- If it is not in your list and you deleted it by mistake, add a traffic source for the same website. Routy offers to restore the deleted one, and its links start working again.
- If it belongs to another account, generate the link again from this account and replace it where it is published.
- If you have no traffic source at all, add one.
When it clears
On its own, 3 days after the last blocked click. Fixing the cause does not close it at that moment, so you can press Resolve once you have fixed it. If clicks are still being blocked, it opens again with the next one. A burst of blocked clicks is reported at most once an hour, and search engine crawlers never trigger it.
