Report Builder — Building a Report

This is the report itself. The toolbar above the table is where you shape it: choose columns, apply filters, set the sort, then save, share or export.

Columns

Open the Columns drawer — the button shows selected / total (e.g. 6/24).

The Columns drawer, grouped into Dimensions and Facts

Columns come in two groups:

  • Dimensions — what you break the report down by: day, brand, country, traffic source.
  • Facts — the numbers being measured: clicks, signups, FTDs, commission.

Tick the columns you want and untick the ones you don't. Drag the handle on the right to reorder — the order in the drawer is the order in the table. Use the drawer's search box when the list is long.

There are limits on how many columns a report can carry in total, and on how many of each kind. The exact limits depend on your account; Routy tells you if you go over.

A brand-new report starts empty and shows a "Select the data you want to see" prompt. Build Report walks you through the guided setup — Columns step, then Filters step.

Filters

Narrow the data with the filter controls.

The filter panel for a report

Which filters you get depends on the report type, and the set is a fixed one. Routy offers a filter for the report's date column plus any of these it contains: account, program, brand, brand link, link type, traffic source, country, region, conversion type and currency. Nothing else is filterable — so a report with twenty-odd columns may still show only a handful of filters, and the measured numbers (clicks, commission and the like) never get one.

Where a report filters on accounts, Account status explains what each status means.

The date range is required. You can change it, but you can't clear it — emptying it snaps it straight back to the report's default. Until it has a value the report can't run and Save stays disabled.

Clearing the date range on its own puts the default back. Clear all doesn't — it empties everything including the date range, which leaves the report unable to run until you pick a range again. If the table goes blank after Clear all, that's why.

If you open a shared link carrying a filter this report doesn't support, Routy applies everything it can and tells you which filters it had to drop.

Sorting

Click any sortable column header to sort by it. Click again to reverse, once more to remove the sort. One sort at a time.

On a phone, use the sort control in the toolbar rather than the column headers.

Saving

The Save button changes label depending on what you're working with:

  • Save as preset — for a new report. Give it a name and choose whether it's visible to everyone in your account or only to you.
  • Save changes — for a preset you can edit. Update it in place, or keep it as it was and save your changes as a brand-new preset.
  • Save as my own — for a Routy Default preset. Defaults are read-only, so this makes an editable copy, pre-named for you.

Saving a copy of a Routy Default preset

After saving, the badge beside the report name tells you the scope the preset ended up with — Account (everyone in your account) or Private (just you).

Two things a preset does not keep as you might expect:

  • The date range is never saved. A preset describes what to report on, not when. It opens on the report's default window every time.
  • Sort order is stored by Save changes, not by a first save. A brand-new preset is created without one, so if the sort matters, set it after saving and use Save changes.

If you leave with unsaved changes, Routy warns you first.

To rename a preset without touching its setup, use the pencil / Edit next to the report name.

Sharing & exporting

The bar above a report, with its scope badge, rename pencil and share button

  • Share copies a link that opens this view — same columns, filters and sort. It captures the report as it is on your screen right now, including unsaved changes, so save first if you want a stable version. The link applies once, on open: reloading afterwards returns to the underlying preset.
  • Download exports what you're looking at as a CSV, using the columns and filters you have applied. You need at least one column selected, and very large reports are capped at 100,000 rows.

Common questions

"The table is empty / won't load"

Check the date range first — if it has no value the report can't run. If it's fine but there are no matching rows, widen the range or clear some filters.

"Save is greyed out"

Either nothing has changed yet, or the date range has no value. On a brand-new report, Save also stays disabled until you've selected columns.

"I can't edit this preset"

It's a Default (Routy) preset — read-only. Use Save as my own to get an editable copy.

"There's no filter for a column I can see in the table"

Only a fixed set of columns is filterable — the report's date column plus the account, program, brand, brand link, link type, traffic source, country, region, conversion type and currency dimensions. Measured numbers are never filterable.

"Some of my filters didn't apply"

This report type doesn't support filtering by those columns. Routy applies everything it can and lists what it dropped.

"Big reports feel slow to load"

Large result sets stream in as you scroll the table — give it a moment near the bottom.

When to contact support

Get in touch if a report returns an error rather than empty results, if an export fails or arrives incomplete, or if the figures disagree with what you see in Clicks or on your Dashboard.
