Clicks Blocked: Traffic Control

Real visitors are clicking one of your links, but a traffic control set to Blocked is stopping them.

What it means

A traffic control can stop a link, a traffic source, or one link on one traffic source. When it is set to Blocked, visitors get an error page instead of the offer, and the click is not recorded. This issue tells you that a blocked control is still catching real clicks, so you can confirm that is what you want.

Why it happens

  • You or a teammate blocked the link or its traffic source, for example to stop junk traffic or pause a placement during a review, and visitors are still clicking it.
  • A wider control applies. A control on the whole traffic source, or one set on your account by your account manager, blocks the link even if the link itself has no control.
  • A control was meant to be temporary but has no auto-release time, so it is still in force.

What you can do

  1. Open Traffic control and look for a Blocked control on the link, its traffic source, or the link and source together. Read its comment to see why it was set.
  2. If the block is no longer wanted, open the row's menu and choose Release.
  3. If the block is intended, take the link down from the places that still send visitors. The issue's details show the page the click came from, the referrer, and your pa / pb values.
  4. If you release the control and clicks are still blocked, a stronger control may still apply. Ask your account manager.

When it clears

On its own, 1 day after the last blocked click. Releasing the control does not close it at that moment, so you can press Resolve once you have released it, or once you have confirmed the block is intended. If clicks are still being blocked, it opens again with the next one. A burst of blocked clicks is reported at most once an hour, and search engine crawlers never trigger it.
