Send Conversions Automatically to Third Party Ads Platforms

This article is a step-by-step guide to show you how to link Routy with your third party ads platform, using Zapier. We will follow these steps:

  • Creating a webhook on Zapier

  • Linking the Zapier webhook to Routy

  • Linking the Zapier webhook to a third party platform (e.g. Google Ads)

The video below walks you through the integration with Google Ads.

Note: Through Zapier, you can integrate with other platforms, such as Meta Ads, Microsoft Ads etc...

Requirements

  • Routy tracking (Affiliate links need to be Routy links)

  • If your ad sends users to your website before the advertiser, the Routy pixel script needs to be added there

  • Webhooks enabled on Routy (Expert plan and above)

  1. Choose your Google Ads account. Click Continue when ready

  1. Select Google Click ID (GCLID) under Conversion User Identifier Source

  2. Under Google Click ID (GCLID) Search for gclid and select Main Attributions Gclid

  6. On Conversion Action choose the relevant conversion

  OR search for Event Name

If you don't have Google Ads conversions set up - check out the next section, otherwise, skip it.

Setting up your conversion actions on Google Ads

If you cannot find any conversion actions, this means you still need to create them on Google Ads. To create conversion actions, head over to your Google Ads account.

Tools and Settings > Conversions > New Conversion Action

  Select the Import conversion type.

Set up a Converted lead conversion category, and set a name for the conversion action (we recommend using Signup or FTD).   Select the appropriate settings and press Create and Continue.   Once you've done this be sure to reconnect to your Google Ads account on Zapier by pressing on the three dots near your account name and selecting Test Connection.

  7. On Timestamp search from Event Time Stamp. Not to be confused with Click Time Stamp.

  8. On Value search for Event Value

  9. On Currency Code search Currency Code

  10. Click Continue

If this is your first connect between Zapier and your Google Ads account, you must first authorize Zapier from Google Ads by following the steps on this link.

Testing Zapier sending the event to Google Ads

Since we are using a fake gclid value, if you try to test the Zap you’ll get the following error:

So we suggest you skip the test and Turn on Zap. Once you have a Real conversion you’ll see a success on Zap History.

Aaaand you're done! You should start seeing your conversions flow into Google Ads from Routy.

To check each webhook sent from Routy, head over to your traffic source page by pressing on Traffic Sources in your Routy sidebar. Find the traffic source and press on the Webhooks tab. Select the webhook (we recommend having one for signups, and one for FTDs) and press Webhook history. There you can see every event sent!

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Ensure that your pixel is working correctly by checking the traffic source health status and the Views report (you can even see the gclid/fbclid/msclkid captured)

  • Check the webhook settings:

Check the conversions the webhook is set to fire for

  • Check the source the webhook is set to fire

  • Check the webhook history (Traffic Source > Select traffic source > Webhooks > Select webhook > Webhook History) to see what conversions have been fired

  • Check what conversions you have received for the traffic source in the Conversion Report
