Finishing a vendor sign-in

Some vendors — Google, Meta, Microsoft among them — don't hand out keys to paste. You connect them by signing in at the vendor itself and approving the access Routy asks for. When you're done, the vendor sends you back to this screen.

You never navigate here yourself. It's the last moment of the sign-in, and normally you see it for less than a second before landing on the next step.

What you should see

"Finishing up with {vendor}. This only takes a moment. Don't close this tab."

Then one of two things happens:

  • You were connecting a new channel — you land back on the connect panel with your accounts loaded, ready to choose which one to connect. If your sign-in covers several products (one Google account can back Ads, Analytics and Search Console), you're asked which one you meant, because the sign-in itself doesn't say.
  • You were restoring an existing connection — you go back where you came from, with "Credentials updated. Syncing resumes on the next run."

Nothing further is needed from you in either case.

Already finished

"This page was already submitted. Check your connections to see the result."

You'll see this if you refresh this page or hit the back button onto it. A sign-in can only be completed once, so the screen doesn't guess whether the first attempt worked — Go to connections takes you to the list, where the answer actually is. If the connection is there, it worked.

When it doesn't work

Every failure explains itself and offers Go to connections. Most also offer Try again, which starts a fresh sign-in.

What it says What happened What to do
"This sign-in took too long or was already used. Start again." The sign-in expired, or that particular attempt had already been used. Try again.
"{vendor} didn't grant everything Routy asked for." You declined at the vendor, or approved only part of what was asked. Try again and approve all the access requested. Routy can't pull your numbers without it.
"Routy's connection to {vendor} isn't set up correctly. This is on our side — contact support and we'll fix it." Our own setup with that vendor is wrong. Contact support. There's deliberately no Try again here — retrying would fail in exactly the same way, and there's nothing on your side to correct. Your credentials are not the problem.
"{vendor} is unavailable right now. Try again shortly." The vendor was down or rate-limiting. Wait a few minutes and Try again.
"You switched accounts while signing in. Switch back and start again." The Routy account you're viewing changed between leaving and coming back. Switch back to the account you started from, then start the connection again.
"This page is missing the details needed to finish connecting. Start again from Channels." You reached this page without a sign-in in progress — usually a bookmark or a trimmed link. Start again from Channels → Add.

Common questions

"It's been sitting on 'Finishing up' for a while"

Give it a moment and don't close the tab. If it stays there, open Channels in a new tab and check whether the connection exists — if it does, you're done.

"I hit back and now it says Already finished"

That's expected. Check your connections list to see whether the first attempt succeeded.

"Do I need to re-enter anything after signing in?"

No. For these vendors there's nothing to type at all — you approve at the vendor and Routy stores the result.

When to escalate

  • You see "Routy's connection to {vendor} isn't set up correctly." — that one is always ours, so report it.
  • The sign-in reports success but no connection appears in your list.
  • Try again keeps landing back on the same failure with a vendor you can otherwise sign into normally.
  • You're told you declined access even though you approved everything the vendor asked for.
